Blood on egg?

Is there a reason there's blood on my hens egg? I have never seen seething like this before. It's also a bit mis-shapen.

Just means that at some point along the last stretch of the repro tract (my money is on the vent itself where it is stretched as the egg is actually expulsed) a vessel had a minor rupture. No big deal, really, and it's actually surprising it doesn't happen more when you look at just how vessel rich and stretched thin it all is.

The egg appears to have been cracked by impact - was it laid into the nest box or outside of the box? If in the box, you may want to assess the "padding" in our box to prevent future cracking as the eggs actually drop from the hen.
