One of my easter eggers that's a year and a half old laid her normal green egg today. I though she was just being messy and got some poo on it but on close inspection it was in fact blood. it was smeared on almost half of the egg. Does anyone else get eggs like these? I know its normal on a pullet egg, but not a full grown hen. btw, she seems very healthy and lays about 5 eggs a week.

thanks! I did check her vent and it was as normal as a chicken vent could look lol. I was just worried that maybe there was some internal thing going on that I didn't know about. She's my favorite hen and I would hate for anything to happen to her! I feel better now.

I saw an article somewhere - in one of the many things I read on chickens - that showed how the egg actually turns right before it comes out. Maybe that turning is what causes the occasional blood, I dunno. Glad her vent is okay. I wouldn't worry unless it becomes a regular occurence.
