Anyone ever notice a lil bit of blood smeared on the egg from a new layer?
matter a fact ...yes i have....ouch !
Yes... seems to be normal for new layers
Yep. And sometimes on those big double yolkers too.
episiotomy --- /cringe
each one of mine did that with their first egg- that's how I knew I had a new layer in the flock. One Particular EE had quite a bit of blood on her first egg and several eggs after- I kept an eye on her and she was fine - after about the 5th egg- no more blood.
They all lay perfectly clean smooth eggs now- so no worries
congrats on your first egg- almost magical isn't it?
my EE had that and shortly after she stopped laying eggs. She is my smallest hen and lays the largest eggs. I wonder if there is any connection between the bloody eggshells and her stopping laying. I have lights in the coop and all others have been laying fine.
I think its just a clich in the system and is fairly normal. We just had a very bloody surprise in the frying pan yesterday. First time ever in almost three years. They cease to amaze.
Yes the first egg is almost magical!!! Got my first egg October 30th!
