I went to lock my chickens in their coop tonight and I found my girl in the nesting box. When I pulled her out this is what I found. I’m not sure what happened or what to do.

Hard to see clearly from the pictures but it looks as if she has a prolapse. It happens sometimes during egg laying.
First thing in the morning remove her from the others. Her blood and red tissue will attract other’s to peck and tear her making the problem much much worse.
She’ll need a soak in lukewarm water not only to get her clean but so you can take photos again so we can see the extent of her injuries.
Can you bring her in? Perhaps put her in a dog crate or cage?

Wow, it Looks like she might have a prolapse with an egg in it. Can you check to see if that is an egg?

@Wrigs8 with a little treatment you can take care of a prolapse.

(sometimes first time posters have a hard time finding their way back to the thread)

She is in a dog crate now, separated from the other chickens. I’m thinking it was not a prolapse simply because it seems like it is lower on her belly. It starts between her legs and moves up to her back end. It is not at her vent area.

Can you clean it up and get new pictures?

Oh good you got her inside.
Could you take photos so we can see what your dealing with. Is she actively bleeding? Perhaps at first you could dab it with wet paper towel so you get a better idea was it is.

I am wondering if an old towel would be better than being in shavings with that going on.
