    I really need some help here. the past few days 1 out of 12 of my eggs have had small smears of blood on it. BUT Yesterday the one egg was covered in blood and there was even some blood in the pine shavings in nesting box. anyone with any information I would grreatly appreciate it... they are only 6 month old hens and started laying about 4 weeks ago... maybe a little loinger... thanks so much for your help

    How many birds is it you have? I ask because my first suggestion is going to be to give everyone a good once over and pay special attention, of course, to vents - while a little blood here and there is no big deal, for there to be blood in the nest box, etc would indicate there should be enough blood that you will find evidence of the bleeding on the bird in question with a thorough check. The repro tract is rich in vessels and the tissue undergoes a lot of stretching and pressure during expulsion of an egg, so ruptures do happen, but they are generally pretty minor.
