Hi, around 3 months ago i had bought 3 Indian Runner ducks, which looked in fine shape and size. But 2 days ago the female indian runner (not sure what age) just died , we had found her in her pen on the floor dead. And before that the youngest indian runner which is around 25-30 weeks old now had bloody nose and puffy eyes, which we had put down to fighting with the other ducks (we have 10 more) , so yesterday we had put the indian runner in the duckling pen that i had made to see if he would go any better , he is looking better but now he seems partly blind in his left eye so my question is, is it a virus or just fighting does he need treating or should we just leave him? many thanks
Had you seen him fighting with the other ducks? if so it could be from fighting, I'd give him at least a gallon bucket of water with 1-2 Tab of Apple Cider vinegar in it he'll wash his face and it will help to clean up his eyes. If some kind of infection then it will probably get worse if not treated or seen by a vet. Some poultry vitamins fed to him should help boost his immune system. Anyone else showing symptoms. If he was fighting maybe someone else looks beat up too. Very sorry for your loss.
Regardless of the cause at this point I would be treating the eyes with Vetericyn (spray or eye gel - the spray is easier for ducks if they are not used to being handled). Or, you could make saline solution and drop that into the eyes three or four times a day. And I would also follow Miss Lydia's advice as well. A vet would be best.
