Bloody poop, what’s the cause?

Okay one of my five chickens is showing this symptom.
All are 4,5 months old
Eating layer crumbles plus free range in garden during the day and some
I believe it’s a speckled Sussex that is having the problem and she was a little slow to respond yesterday when I called them back to the coop at the end of the day

any ideas in the cause?

Looks like a severe case of coccidia. You can try to treat with Amprolium/Corid or use Sulfadimethoxin right away.

When did you last deworm them? Worms often will injure the intestinal mucosa and make it easier for coccidia to adhere.

I inherited them about a week ago from a family member that is moving. I’ll check on the last time they were dewormed

How are they doing?

Symptoms went away with no treatment and all the birds and eating/drinking/pooping/acting normal! I don’t know what the cause was but it seems to be gone
