Hi all. I noticed some (what looks like) bloody poop in the brooder last time I checked them; all the chicks are acting fine and are approx 4 weeks old (they're I estimate a couple weeks between the two batches but I can't be certain of exact age). I searched the forums and found that what looks like bloody poo can be a completely harmless intestinal shedding or could be coccilis (sp?) and very fatal....can someone look at the pics and tell me what you think? They've been getting apple cider vinegar in their water since I got them

A sample needs to be taken to a vet and be tested to be sure and treated if needed. Safety First.

Where are you brooding them, and what are you using for bedding? If they are acting fine, you could take a wait and see approach. But, cocci will kill quickly. I've had several scares myself, with shed lining, but took my cue from bird's behavior and chose not to treat. They were fine.

They're in a brooder inside the coop bedding is usually hay or husks but the ducks have a tendency to pull it out on them :/ The brooder is a meshed in kennel with a heat lamp.

I second what LG says. Take your cue from the behavior of your chicks. Cocci will make them noticeably sick. The second one starts acting lethargic, get the whole bunch on Corid.

The red stuff does appear to be intestinal lining, but listen you your own instincts. If you have any doubts at all, Corid is very easy and safe to mix into the water and treat. Then you would have the peac of mind knowing your chicks are okay.

I doubt it's anything else.
