I have had a few pullets hatch with white tinged earlobes this year, my first year trying with BLRW. All the ones with white earlobes were sold as "pure Barber lines" and I was wondering if other people have had the same experience with this line, or in other lines for that matter. Is it hard to breed out? I am trying to decide what to do. Do I cull the three hens, and move forward with just a trio? Would the smaller gene pool do more damage to my program than the white lobes? Of COURSE the white lobes are on the largest, prettiest hens with great lacing... Any insights here? Thanks in advance.

I looked today and saw a pullet with light ear lobes in my bantam BLRW pen also. Completely unrelated strain. Anyone else have light earlobes on some of their BLRW, and if so, is it a big deal, or should I just flow with it and enjoy my birds?

Come on folks. As many people on here love and breed BLRW there MUST be someone with some input here. Either that or everyone's flock has white earlobes scattered and they don't want to talk about it... starting to sound more likely. I just want to know what other peoples' flocks are looking like, what is "the norm" even if it is not to the APA standard of perfection for wyandottes.

I haven't noticed any on my birds, but I'll check when I go out to the pens in a while.

Thanks Katy, the ones from your stock are the only ones that didn't show any white lobes, for what it's worth... [IMG]

Don't have Barber in my lines that I know of but don't have any with white ear lobes in any of my BLR or other wyandottes.

Thanks guys for posting... If anyone else reads this that has had any experience "breeding out" white or whitish tinged earlobes and wants to share any good or bad outcomes, I'm all ears.

I have just five hens total, and only two with no hint of white... I ended up with mostly roos this spring... and need to cull down to just two, which I have already chosen. Not sure if I should also cull down to just two hens and go with two pair, or just sell them all and concentrate on other varieties I already have.
