Hey folks,
I'm wondering if somebody might be able to give me some ideas.
My 2 year old female sebright has been having some health issues since last saturday. On saturday morning last week, I found her looking really down suddenly, walking real slow, panting hard, looking like she was about to die.
I noticed that her earlobes had gotten an iridescent blue color. A couple of hours later she laid a shell less egg. Soon as she laid her egg, she got out looking much better.
Since then, she has been fairly active, and looking fine overall. However, she laid her next 3 eggs in the strangest places — 1) In the middle of the garden out in the open 2) on the steps in a bright open place 3) in the middle of the night on the floor of the coop. Like as if she can't control when it comes, and she just lays them wherever she happens to be standing at the time.
The shells are rough, and even have very small streaks of blood on them, possibly because they are rough.
Besides the strange egg issue, she seems to be active overall, eating, pooping, drinking just fine. No outward symptoms that are noticeable. Her ears are now less blue, but still seem to have a little bit of the glow.
She almost seems as though egg laying has been causing her pain and discomfort recently.
Does anybody have any ideas?
She is a mostly free ranging hen, one of 4, they live in an organic garden, and are overall healthy and happy hens.
