Recently noticed that the 5 week old Silver spangled Hamburg Chick has blue earlobes! I guess this is typical, or is it not? They seem so bright at a young age. First two close-ups taken today. The last picture is from about a week and a half ago. Also, any way to tell if its a male or female yet?

If its just 5 weeks, you've very likely got a cockerel there. Comb is growing and wattle have even started. Earlobe color is normal for a white earlobe juvenile bird.

That was my suspicion too - a cockerel. We'll let him grow some more and see how he develops. We bought 7 bargain bin chicks at a hatchery for a broody. These chicks were supposed to be sexed female and it was 5 days after hatch that we purchased them. The broody did great as a mother hen and has finally started laying again. It looks like 2 of the 5 might be males.
