Blue gene question

    We just had a completion of 4 eggs hatch today parents being bantams mother black frizzle & daddy a red Cochin- 2 of the babies are black for sure and 2 seem more along the line of blue- is that possible if the mother has the blue gene and daddy is red or is it just maybe the lighting throwing off the color[​IMG]

    The blue either comes from the father, or the mother is really a very dark blue, not a black.

    Am I correct in seeing the 2 chicks as a "blue" not black tho or do you think it's lighting- when got Diaper Deana (mother) as a chick assumed she was black - and if only 1 parent has gene can blues still come out in chicks. Or do both parents have to have the gene
