Hi all — thanks for all the good advice (read as a lurker!) over the past 9 months as I’ve been raising my first batch of chicks! Everyone is happy and healthy and laying well. I’m eggcited to build a pvc tractor to get the girls some fresh grass throughout the year, and to build out their secure run. They have a stellar coop (my dad, who has raised chickens his whole life, helped me build it — it’s a fortress!) but their run is still small and minimal — I’m still piecing everything together. Today I let them roam free a little as an experiment — made me too nervous (on my 1.25 acre yard — too many ways for them to get into trouble!) so it’s time to build! Thanks again in advance for all the wisdom. Glad to be here!

Here is an idea for you. You can also use T-posts and various types of fencing for a run. Just toss bird netting over the top.

Hello and welcome to BYC! Glad you joined. I contain mine within electric poultry netting. They have about 1/3 acre to roam around in. The area has lots of plantings for hawk cover.
