Hi there! Just been dreaming about breeding chickens (specific breed undecided) and I've been looking around on BYC naturally, but I would like to know if there are some good recommendations for books dealing with this topic? I'm looking for beginning info on this such as breeding pens, record keeping suggestions, how often to breed, etc. I am aware of the American Standard of Perfection and studying up on the specific breed. Thanks for any suggestions!

This one is awesome! You can buy it on amazon. It’s helped me soooo much. Definitely a must!

I recommend the following for anyone interested in actually breeding poultry (not just keeping a few) -

The Mating and Breeding of Poultry
https://www.amazon.com/Mating-Breeding-Poultry-Harry-Lamon/dp/1542739195/

Fundamentals in Poultry Breeding
https://www.amazon.com/Fundamentals-Poultry-Breeding-Successful-ofChickens/dp/1535559853/

Both of these are excellent historic titles that have been helpful to new and established breeders for many decades, and now fortunately available in modern reprint editions.
