I have found myself unable to sleep at night since I ordered my chicks. They aren't due until next Wednesday (possibly Tuesday), yet I'm still so ridiculously excited and anxious at the same time.

So, what is a bored mom-to-be to do? Well, apparently paint all future chicken-related containers. So far I've converted an old parmesan cheese container (the cylindrical kind) into a holder for the parakeet grit, the shake/pour option is great....and proceeded to decorate it with grass, baby chicks, and 'CHICK GRIT' in big bold letters. Next came an old cat litter bucket (fully cleaned, of course) that will house the starter feed, which dons the title 'Chickin Feed'. Now I've started painting the future scratch-bucket. That scratch bucket that I probably will not be using for quite a while yet. When this is finished, I'm tempted to go outside, in the dead of night mind you, and find the perfect piece of tree park to convert into a sign for the chicken coop.....which hasn't even been started because of rain. It's lunacy, I tell ya!

Next Wednesday better hurry up or I fear the family will call the loony barn on me! That just won't do because I couldn't possibly enjoy my new babies from a padded cell [IMG]

I LOVE it!!! That is great. You are going to love being a chick momma! Getting the chicks is just the beginning... watching them grow and then lay their eggs... and all the other things they go through... it's a great journey!

Jsto...give me a yell if ya want company in that padded cell! [IMG]

My 25 day olds are due next week too and I've been "consumed" with getting the brooder just right. I experimented with 2 different types of brooder over the colder/cooler months out in the actual coop (Feb., Mar. & April) but since we've warmed up here I was dealing with insane temp flucuations.

Sooo, we started moving orchids from the "Green Room" out to the front porch and now the babies will be indoors (right next to our bedroom..rofl) for a few weeks.

I'm hopeless when it comes to animals. I swear, if for some reason I ended up with a tarantula as a pet, that darn spider would be the happiest spider in the world. I'm such a sucker for funny little furry/feathered things!

I LOVE it!!! That is great. You are going to love being a chick momma! Getting the chicks is just the beginning... watching them grow and then lay their eggs... and all the other things they go through... it's a great journey!

I know--watching the journey is what is exciting me the most! The quickness of their cycle just amazes me--I can't wait for any of it!

Think we'll get a discount if we double?! I just finished our brooder completely tonight (it was just missing a suitable covering), yet still found myself fiddling, trying to make everything perfect for the new arrivals. What are we like? [IMG]

Definitely! Sometimes it's fun to make things the non-traditional way rather than going to the store and getting the standard. I have such a blast scrounging through old things that normal people would trash and making them into something useful, always have.

Where in NC are you? Where'd you order your chicks from?

I was a nervous wreck when I ordered my chicks. I had to wait 2-3 weeks to get them after I ordered. I WENT CRAZY!!!!

I work 2 days a week and when I'm working I'm worried all day long that their heat lamp went out, or my blind chick can't find her food or water or the house is burning down....I am seriously insane right now. I have a feeling when they move out to the coop I'll be sooooooooooo much worse.

You are going to love your babies and watching them grow. I was a nervous wreck when i ordered my chicks, they just came this week. Who needs television? They are so entertaining to just watch and play with.
