Hi everyone! I bought a two day old sexed speckled sussex five weeks ago. (Along with a buff orpington.) I've never raised the speckled sussex so I don't know what to expect in terms of growing. From what I've read, females will have less white on their chest, they will have more feathers and longer tails and of course their combs and wattles will be smaller and yellowish. My sussex, Rosie, has a fairly medium sized comb which is yellow. She has a little white chest with a long tail and thin legs. But I've noticed in the past few weeks that her wattles have started to become visible and are also a little pinkish. So what to you all think? Boy or girl? I surely hope she is a girl as we can't keep roosters where I live

Thanks for any input!

As of right now, I would say that Rosie is a cockerel. Pullets don't usually develop prominent wattles, or even larger combs, at 5 weeks. Still, its a little young to be positive about gender, and I would post updated photos of "her" in a few weeks.

Rosie also is smaller than Daisy. (The orpington.) I know that boys are generally bigger than girls. She is also almost feathered out. Any other ideas?!?!?

I would love to hear them.

I've heard that the SS usually develop a larger comb while growing, so as long as it stays yellow, and those wattles don't grow, you may have a little lady. From that last picture, I'd still guess female
