Meet my five year old hen, Hazel. I got her free off Craigslist two years ago from a woman who waS downsizing her flock. Hazel was “voted off the island” because her owner said she wasn’t laying anymore. Well, I discovered that was was still laying, and after being broody for two months this summer, she is back to laying an egg almost every day.
Since I’ve had her, she’s injured her foot twice. The second time, I thought she wasn’t going to recover. But after several days as an indoor chicken, her foot began to heal. Now she walks with a limp, but it doesn’t seem to keep her from roaming the yard with the rest of the flock.
I’ve noticed recently that she’s growing whiskers!
