I hatched these out of my dark brahma bantams. The only possibility that they could not be pure bred is that I have one buff brahma bantam pullet. These look awfully light to me to be dark brahmas - is this usually their coloring when they're young? Could the light color have resurfaced through recessive genes? Thoughts?

Not sure how you ended up with them from your cross, but they look like Light Brahmas to me.

    That's a light brahma.

The reason she popped out is because both Light Brahmas and Dark Brahmas have the same partridge base. . . So all you need is the Buff's Columbian genes to sneak in there, added with the silver genes of the Dark Brahma, and viola - You have a mock-up of a Light Brahma. [IMG]

Awesome! Thanks everyone for the help! I just kept waiting for their "adult" coloring to come in, but it wasn't happening LOL. Strange they all came out that color - maybe the buff hen was the only one laying at the time I was collecting... Either way, I like the lights anyway [IMG]

Hmmm... not sure exactly which one you're talking about... it could be one of my splash cochins (lf), or one of the silkies... here are a few pics...

Illia & AL - What are the chances of me crossing these back to each other and them throwing dark offspring? In the pen I had a dark roo, 6 dark hens, and only one buff hen. I was getting at least 3 eggs a day - so obviously they were not all coming from the buff pullet... Can the dark color resurface? Sorry for all the questions - I'm still learning [IMG]
