Hello everyone,

I have a baby Brahma that is 4 weeks old and was wandering if anyone can help identify it’s sex. Hoping for a pullet 🤞

Quite a newbie at this wonderful hatching experience, unfortunately out of 12 eggs under a broody only this one hatched and seemed to be growing very slowly at first, but having a bit of a growth spurt in last few days.

Thanks for any help!

Thank you all for the quick replies!

I will definitely post some more pics in a few weeks time once she/he has grown up some more.

I am a bit confused about the breed of the little chook now too
I had assumed all Brahmas had 5 toes 😅
She/he is by far the noisiest of the whole flock as well (even though she is well fed and watered) so I guess that could also explain that.

I live in France and got the eggs online via a breeder and were meant to look like the attached picture. I’ve asked for some more info from the breeder, so hopefully should be able to get an answer on her or his breed.

Many thanks!

Oh interesting! Since you are overseas, Partridge Brahmas are much more common so that's a plus! The parent stock also look pure partridge. (Partridge rooster and blue partridge or partridge hens.) At this age, my Brahmas (including my partridge ones) didn't really develop the yellow legs yet and took a few more weeks for the color to be obvious. Is their diet high in maize or are other cereal grains more common where you're from? :) This could also cause the leg color difference. The only issue I'm seeing right now is the five toes. I'm honestly not sure how common that is to pop up, especially overseas and in a variety that's less familiar. I will research that some to see. In the meantime, could you get some well lit pictures of the legs or can you tell if they have a yellow cast or not? :)

I got some info from the breeder, they say they have a mix of pure and blue partridge, but didn’t mention anything why it might have 5 toes 🤨

But yep definitely can confirm the diets are high in cereals around here. My much more experienced chook breeding friend told me that was the case.
I’ve attached some photos of the little ones feet and legs, but momma chook is very defensive so maybe didnt manage the best shots as had to be quick 😅
Her legs don’t seem too yellow at the moment, more of a pink skinned colour.

many thanks for the helping in identifying her or him. I’m very new at this but learning a lot.
And that’s a beautiful chook you have in your profile pic! I’m hoping to have one like that one day 😁
