I bought some eggs from a lady with a mixed breed flock this spring, and one of the chicks turned out white. The egg she hatched from was light blue, and she was yellow as a chick (no grey or silver). We named her Elsa.
Elsa’s father is a brahma/Silverudd blue cross (his mother is Brahma, and his father is a splash silverudd):
Edit: her father might be a pure silverudd blue (splash).
Elsa’s mother is a cream legbar, and looks like one of the hens pictured here:
This is Elsa:
She doesn’t resemble her parents at all. I am positive her mother is the cream legbar due to the egg colour (her mother is the only blue layer in the mixed flock), and the Brahma/silverudd is the only rooster in the flock.
I have read a little bit about dominant and recessive white, but I would love some input from you on why she turned out white.
