Brand new chicks

Hello everyone.
I am expecting 6 new chicks next week for the first time.

I was wondering if they pretty much learn to eat and drink on their own or will I have to help them.

I did order the grow gel which helps them after the shipping I am told.

I am worried they don't have a hen to teach them.

Hello! What I do is I put down pine shavings in their brooder, then I lay out a few bounty paper towels on top, and I sprinkle some food onto the paper towels, which they get real excited about. With the water, sometimes you have to dip their little beaks in it to get them started drinking, but often, they see another chick drink, and then they start drinking.

Be sure to put some marbles or glass beads into the drinking water if you've got bantam chicks, so they aren't able to drown in their drinking water.
