My daughter and i started raising chickens about a year and a half ago. Weve decided to stick with silkies. Ive been on backyard chickens a few times but just became a member today. My exciting news... our first baby hatched yesterday! Sooo amazing watching it. From hearing peeping through the shell, to the first little poke. It is so adorable, and looks strong and healthy.

Welcome to Backyard Chickens!:welcomeWe are glad you joined the flock! BYC is a helpful site providing all of the information you need to know about poultry! There is always space for more members on the BYC roost!:highfive: I had a few chicks die that hatched from contaminated eggs and luckily my Marans are the type that would never poop in a nesting box. My broody Easter Egger... Well that's a different story. Anyway, I would lightly clean the poop off just to be safe before any bacteria suddenly spreads through the pores. Just my suggestion. Anyway, hope you enjoy it here as much as we all do!
