What a wonderful forum! My son and I are looking for a healthier lifestyle and decided that homegrown and home canned is our goal for 2015. So as we do everything.....Baby chicks are in a rubber maid container and the chicken coop should be done (hopefully) this week. We have so much to learn and I am Thankful to have found this group.....what a awesome bunch of online neighbors.... Hope to chat with everyone real soon

Good morning and welcome to BYC!

What kind of chicks do you have?

Nice to have you join us! If you have any questions feel free to ask.

I have 12 Black Astralorps, 12 Buff Orpingtons, 6 Ameraucanas (because my son who is 21 thinks they are cool) and we are awaiting the arrival of 16 Black laced Red Wyandottes. I was sure the Wyndottes would be my favorite but how can you not love baby Buff Orpingtons..... they are so cute and really friendly.

Welcome to BYC!

Sounds like you have a big coop and plenty of room for a big flock to start with. Make sure to post some photos so we can celebrate with your new healthy lifestye.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! You have come to the right place for all the learning and chicken chat! The learning centre is a great place to start for lots of articles on all aspects of keeping chickens https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Wishing you the very best of luck with your chicks and the more healthy lifestyle. Be sure to ask any questions you may have everyone here to help and very friendly :frow

Hello, and welcome to BYC!

I'm glad you joined our community.

Sounds like you'll have a wonderful flock! All of the breeds that you've chosen should have very good temperaments and be good layers. The Wyandotte is my favorite breed of chicken because of its excellent temperament, good egg production, and hardiness. The Ameraucana is a nice breed, too.
