Hello! I came on this website to learn about breeds because I'm interested in buying and raising chickens as pets. (And to enjoy their eggs!) Ive wanted chickens all my life and now I'm finally getting them! There are so many breeds, my head is spinning. I want big fat hens who might enjoy being held but I know most will not want that. LOL Any suggestions on breeds and where to buy would be great. I live in Inland Empire (San Bernardino County) but I'm willing to drive. Thanks!!

The Learning Center is a great place to start learning all about chickens (and other poultry/waterfowl). There's even an article on selecting the right breed of chicken for you:
    https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/...cken-guide-to-picking-backyard-chicken-breeds

Once you have 20 posts, you can use the buy-sell-trade forum. The sales change frequently on there and you can find everything from fertile eggs up to POL (point of lay) birds plus some that are offered for free re-homing.

Good luck in your new adventure!
