Hi all :) Glad I found this page!
My nephew and my son are in 4H and wanted to begin with chickens. We are lost but learning alot already. We got 4 sil go link chicks today and they are sitting in the room with me chirping and being happy little chicks. They have a good set up but are 2 weeks old and are obviously still indoors. So far, so good. We are going to be building their coop but wanted to wait a week on the weather here in Idaho. It's been a neat experience researching together and seriously, it has become a family affair. The boys are looking up stuff and planning and it's all exciting. We've named the chicks already, hehehe. That was the fun part.

I will be honest, this is our first go... so we aren't sure what to expect and I am sure we'll have a lot of questions. I'm just happy to find a great page with so many resources!

    Thanks guys :)

Since it is cold here, the woman who we bought them from said they should be indoors for 2 more weeks... just curious - what is the temperature rule of thumb for chicks outside overnight and how old they should be?

Hey! I'm new too. I have my first little chicks as well so we have something in common. My new favorite sound is the little chirp coming from that box, not the peep peep peep one but the one where it sounds like they are rolling a peep.

    Out to pasture
to go outside the chicks should be fully feathered but, it depends on your climate. Is it nice and balmy or raw & snowy?[IMG]
