Discussion in 'What Breed Or Gender is This?' started by Roslyn, Jun 12, 2011.
Wondering what breed this lovely girl is- she's small so we're pretty sure she's a bantam.
Try posting a picture of here standing on her own, from the side.
It is hard to see the body type if you are holding her. She is cute, but I see the comb is a little odd. How old is she?
Quote:I'm not sure, I got her from the neighbors and they didn't give me any information other than the fact that she's of laying age, so I'm guessing around 1-2 years or younger.
Maybe a mix?
Quote:x2, It's kind of hard to tell at that kind of angle. What colour eggs does she lay?
Just a guess, they are considered rare and most hatcheries don't sell them.
Looks to me like a Blue Japanese Bantam (likely a mix)
Where did you get her?
Some ways to tell for sure:
Japanese Bantams lay tinted to white eggs and have the same leg color (from what I can tell). Some of them have been known to fly better than other chickens. Their tails stand at a higher angle than other breeds, and their wings are pointed so low that they appear to be floating rather than walking.
Here is a link about the breed.
Hope this Helps!

Quote:Thank you! That does look a lot like her! As to the other posters, I got her from my neighbors just a week ago so I'm not sure what she is; they didn't tell me.
