Are there any backyard breeders local to New Hampshire? I'd be interested in getting hens/chicks from folks close by.

May 18th we will be holding a swap in Springfield VT. I am sure there will be many folks there with plenty available for you to shop through.

The feed store in Bristol can order started pullets.

I'm always happy to throw eggs into my little incubator. It's full of duck eggs right now.

I'm thinking about putting in another order from Ideal. We could split the shipping costs if you are nearby.

Hi! I am interested in more information on the swap being held in Springfield Vermont on May 18. Can you purchase chicks and hens or is it only swapping? I am trying to start a small flock here in Vermont, but since I am a newbe to raising chickens I am trying to get birds that are not too young, possibly 3 or 4 months old or older. I dont want to deal with chicks or egg hatching until I have more knowledge and experience.

We would gladly travel in Vermont (our home) or New Hampshire (within reason) to pick up from a private breeder.

Initially we though of mail-ordering, but there are all sorts of mixed reviews, my wife has been stymied for days, and a day trip (keeping within the local economy) might be just the thing.

    Thanks!

    Thanks for replying...

Do you have any plymouth/barred rocks? Will you be coming to the swap in Springfield weekend after this one?

Since we live in a similar climate, what have you had good luck with?

Locally I have noticed many chickens with pecked bloody parts; lack of aggressiveness would be important as well.

    Cheers!

Hi All, I live in Hooksett NH , but the only breed I work with are True Rumpless Tufted Araucana,I usually keep most of what I hatch But do have chicks availiable some times. And culls, and when my incubator is full I also sell hatching egg's. My Araucana are Large Fowl,I try not to sell chicks till they are well feathered(about 3-5 weeks of age)

I have several barred rock cross pullets and some very cool looking mixed breed cockerels available right now. They are almost 9 weeks old and friendly. Not a good pic but this is the group 'helping' me out on my deck repair project.

Pic of one of the barred pullets (she is a cross). The others have darker barring.

They will be brown egg layers. The cockerels range from ameraucana x welsummer, ameraucana x black giant, one possibly pure black copper marans and a columbian rock cross.
