I'm trying! Anyone ever breed them? They are just kinda fighting right now, I put the female in a baby net, for a while till the male made a bubble nest, then I let her out. I guess that is all till they're done, then I know to take the female out. So excited!

So cool! I've bred bettas a couple times and used to have several tanks of freshwater fish. That was like 5 years ago and I don't have any fish but only focus on chickens. But I remember that used to be so fun!! This is your first time right? What do your bettas look like?

I used to breed bettas abut 3 years ago. There is more prep then just putting a male and a female together. I hope you did that...

I still have one of my old breeding females. She is the last rement of my crazyness with them silly things. LOL. trust me on this, my best advice I can give you now, is make sure you have a bunch of those little clear cups! LOL. nothing is worse then suddenly realizing you need to seperate the young ones, and your order will take another week!

oh yeah... and post pictures! I still love bettas!

Yea I did. I did like I read, I put the female in a clear floater, so he could see her, he showed off for a bit, then got busy with his bubble nest. His bubble nest was huge! So I let her out for a couple of hours, I had to leave so idk if they bred, but I took her out and I'm waiting till Friday to see if any babies turn up, if not I will try again maybe Sat. Or Sun. I will put up pics as soon as my stupid camera will hook up to my computer. You would think a cannon camera would work right! lol, it's the rebel one. My aunt gave it to me for a late b-day present.

How long did the female get to see the male before you exposed her to him? Did she ever show any vertical bars on her body? Get swollen around the belly? The bars would have looked something like this:

Quote: She got to see him for like 30 min.s maybe. No she didn't look like that. Okay, I don't think they bred, for that reason and because Tony (the male) didn't stay with the nest. How do you do it better than I did?

Yeah.. she didn't have anywhere near long enough to have even started making eggs for your boy.. plus, the courting can take up to 3 days... that's just courting. The male chasing the girl around, the two fight, then eventually the female will get friendly.. here's the best walkthrough I could find on it for you:

Thanks! I will try that again. I will let her back into the baby net, then let her out for a few days. The video I found said that you put them where they could see eachother and then let her go when he was done making a bubble nest, and then take her out after about 2 hours. That was not very accurate.

I should tell that person that made the video... Thanks for the info!

I would suggest putting her in a tank right next to his not in a baby net and leave her there until you get the stripes on her. They will still see eachother, but the male cant hurt the female (trust me, he can in just a net). You will need to feed her (and him) high quality food (blood worms or brine shimp are usually a good choice) to help encourge the stripes. I would also suggest adding some plants or other cover to your male's tank so the female has a place to hide.

What size is your breeding tank and how full of water is it? anything in it? do you have a heater? and what kind of filter?
and the other question, do you have anything to feed the fry once they hatch?

sorry to be nosy, I just want an idea of what your starting with so that we can give you some reccomendations so that you will have a successful hatch!

Thanks! I floated her in the cup she came in. I have baby brine shrimp to feed the babies. It is super tiny and it is what I feed all my babies with. You aren't being nosy! I appreciate it greatly! The breeding tank is a 10 gal. it's completely full, and it has this big castle thing in it that the female likes to hide in. I will put a plant in it though. It has a heater, and Idk what kind of filter, but the current was too strong for Tony so I turned it off, I'm going to put a stocking over it before I turn it back on so that it doesn't suck up the babies. I have a question though, how long do you leave the dad in with them? And when do you have to separate them? Thanks!
