Hey, BYC friends! How many of you out there dabble in crossbreeding? My wife and I have been working a Polish X Silkie (polkie) project for awhile and have been getting some interesting results so I just wanted to share a recent juvenile we really like.

Do the orig stock polish have white skin? Polish cockrel silkie pullets(with black skin?)

You might ne making sex links thats why these weird questions.

Well, the father had gray/lighter skin and the mother was a black skinned silkie. I'm still learning about chicken genetics so I am unsure exactly what sex link is or how it works really.

Well if you have a roo and a hen who are each one color genetically for generations like rhode island red or white leghorn then you cross them? The pullets will be the color of the roo and the cockrels will be the color of the hen. This can be extended to skin color. If u have a white leghorn hen pure pure who has generations of white skin behind her and breed her to a silkie with generations of black skin. You have white skin cockrels and black skinned pullets.

Personally im kind of a purist, i really enjoy breeding my special birds to the standard of perfection. I bought purebred birds from stand up lines so its worth time invested. I feel like continuously cross breeding we are going to rob our childrens children of the multitude of different (each special) breeds. But im also a do what u do jus dont hurt me kinda gal so do you and Have Fun. I contributed jus because i thought u might have a chance at some sex links and thats helpful if your selling them.

I have some bantam mutt projects going. I'm using a line-bred strain of OEGBs that is autosexing, cold hardy, and built well. I also have a black d'Anvers type bantam with superior feather quality that I'm breeding in.
Here are the birds involved and produced. I'm going to add Buff Chantecler stock in eventually.

I prefer my purebreds, so they take up most of my resources. This project is small-scale.
