I've heard of breeding season for quail in overall that it's from March through to September.
Thing for me is that my adult quail only started mating in early October, and are still continuing to do so today. Even my 5 week old chicks are constantly crowing (once the other day, one of my chicks was crowing all night.) One male chick even tried to mate with another chick, even though it's not breeding season apparently.

Because it's summer here, I guess it'd make a little more sense to start mating, but I don't get the appropriate times for when breeding season is for quail down under.
    Does anyone have an idea?
Also, anyone know when moult begins? I've only been keeping quail for 3 months but still curious as to when they lose their feathers.

    Thanks in advance!

I believe that's for the northern hemisphere, so breeding season her would be September through march... An easy way to tell is to flip your male quail over and near the vent there's a bump, and if you squeeze it, and its breeding season, a white foam will come out (it's kinda gross, I must warn you haha)

Hope I helped you out :)

Haha, that makes more sense now. xD
All my male chicks vents are swollen and puffy, even in their poop there's this white foamy stuff...
    Heh, lovely.
Should pair them up soon... Every time one of my male chicks crow, my adult male (their father) freaks out, then randomly mounts his mate.

    Thanks Quail Lover! ^.^

Glad I could help :) and thanks for the welcome :D

I also believe that quail start moulting around about now, but I'm not sure... my Fluffy (my first quail and female) is all screwed up atm so I'm pretty sure she's moulting ;)

Just out of curiosity, where abouts in Australia are you? If you're close to Perth, we could exchange quail to keep the lines healthy :)

Haha, I'm on the opposite end of Australia from you, living in NSW. ^.^
Some of my chicks are missing some head feathers (barely anything, just one or two tiny head feathers.).
What do you think would happen to chicks? I mean, isn't it a bit too early for them to start moult, even though they've only recently developed their full feathering? [IMG]
They're only about 5 weeks old, almost fully matured.

I'm afraid I can't help you anymore, as I haven't had babies yet (have yet to buy an incubator and make a brooder), and have not had any experience in those areas. Hope someone else can help you though :)

Haha, no worries. Thanks for your help previously anyway. ^^
Is that one of your quails in your avatar? She looks pretty. :)
