Hello. We want to start a new little flock to replace our dwindling flock, who we inherited from someone else. I'm interested in older breeds who might be happiest foraging, and also breeds who go broody relatively easily. Our old flock had various different breeds all living together and we'd like to do something like this again. Obviously, over the following generations, the flock becomes mixed and ends up being hybrids. We thought it might be fun to start with breeds that represent something of our own family mix. I'm from Sussex, so that's easy. :) We live in France, and I like dark brown eggs, so we'll have some Marans. But the family also has roots in Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and Somerset. I've been consulting google, but can't easily find info on whether they are specific breeds that have been developed in those areas. Can any of you knowledgable folk help?
