Breeds of chickens

Ok, since coming to BYC, I'm curious. Just how many breeds of chickens ARE there? My knowledge is very limited on chickens and I'm afraid I've forgotten more than I knew, lol. But I read the threads and there seem to be so many different breeds. No wonder it's addictive!
