FWIW, I never saw the need for the temperature controller and never bought one. If the chicks need to be warmed, they go under the plate. When they're warm enough, they come out.

This is true. But I guess I just like control.

The number of chicks they say will fit under a plate is as inaccurate as the tiny doll house coops.
The number might fit as day olds but will quickly outgrow it, so go big.

My 12x24 heating pad just barely held 16 until they were done with the heat.

I got an Brinsea on clearance at TSC, was a great deal and the chicks loved it, multiple height settings, just wasn't sure my first time using it when to raise it! I did grow to love it and thanks for the idea of placing plastic cover on the top, they loved to stand on it!!

I have 2 Eco Glow 50's and love them. I use mine for chicks, duclklings, poults, and peachicks.
