I grow broccoli and was wondering if it's ok for the girls to eat the leaves when the plants are done producing crowns of broccoli?
Sorry, but while I am at it, can they eat yellow squash, zucchini and mater plants when they are done producing?
DO NOT feed them tomato plants. Nor potato plants or eggplants. Tomatoes, potatoes, and eggplant all come from the nightshade family and their foilage is poisonous. My chickens loved my squash plant, so I had to surround it with chicken wire. They were ripping off the blosoms, eating the budding teeny squash, AND shredding the leaves. I think it is acorn squash. More viney than a zucchini. When I find a bad squash or bug-bitten tomato, I toss them to the chickens.
