So I bought 10 juvenile Production Red hens, that are said to be approximately a month from laying age.. they all seemed fine, but when I got home and got a closer look, I found that 3 of them have broken top-beaks and 2 of them have very short top beaks - maybe broken a long time ago, and growing back? What am I looking at as far as long-term here? Will they be OK? I'm keeping them away from my other chickens for a few weeks, but then I'd like for them to be able to free range with everyone else... I'm guessing the beaks will grow back, but wondering what would cause this, and if it could be some kind of defect?
