Ok. So, Hey everyone!! I've raised chickens before but it's been 15+ years. We have a broody silkie and another hen I don't know what she is (thought she was a black RI but...???), This morning we found 5 broken eggs!! 2 in the unId'd Hen's nest, and 3 outside (it's been right at 3 weeks so one was VERY close to viable 😭😭😭) and the other eggs were VERY stinky. They were all some level of developed.
Help! What is happening?
A) She knew it and took them out on purpose
B) Our only rooster (silkie) broke them?
C) The other unknown type of hen/not broody broke them?
D) Random animal? We've seen no hawks, snakes, squirrel, or whatever get in there Sooo??

Each (the silkie & unknown hen) have at least 8 eggs under them...not broken. Do I really need to clean off the nest & other eggs? I'm a very "let nature take it's course" person...as I feel the hens know MUCH better than I do. Pics of all 4 chickens. Pls tell me what these hens are lol!
-Yes they get grass, WAY too many treats 😜, and love. 😁

Thank you!I am trying to hold on a few more days before I raid the nest and remove the rest of them. I don't want to for fear of hurting the babies that could be, but also don't want her sitting forever on eggs that aren't viable!

Are you able to take a cell phone flash light and candle the eggs. Looking through the air cell could help figure out if the rest of the eggs are good.
Thank you! I tried, multiple times and during different times of day. The sun shines directly into the coop bc of how it's positioned in the yard so it makes it near impossible to get the right lighting. I also hear the barnvelder (sp?) Or RIR hen every time I'm near and she scares me...whatever she is lol!!
