Brooder bedding

i use 4" of straw. the brooder is the size of a horse stall. i'll change it once a year

chickens can hatch and live outside...on the ground.

I use pine shavings (flake) in brooder.
First 3 days I cover with paper towels.

There is a lot of great advice and from wonderful experts. I think you will have to try one or a couple ways to see what works best for you, everyone is different and have different brooder setups.

I used to use pine chips but tried pine pellets and love them. Much less dust. Absorb moisture well. Not stinky.

I don't currently have any chicks in the brooder but just interested, what brooder bedding do you use?

Aspen shavings. More expensive than pine, but doesn’t have the negative health risks of pine.
