How Long Do I Keep The Light On In The Brooder How Long Do I Keep The Chicks In There.
On for 12 hours off for 12 hours.
4 weeks should be long enough unless you are worried about their safety from predators.
Temp in the brooder should be 95 the first week. 5 degrees less each week after. They just need to be out of drafts and protected from predators (the cats or anything else that could get in there). Assuming you get your new chicks next week they should stay in a brooder type housing for approx. 2mos to be safe. I moved mine at about 1mo to a larger modified cage since they grew out of the first brooderbox. I attached the heat source and put wire mesh cloth around a large dog kennel then used plywood boards around the bottom to keep out any draft. They are in a pretty secure garage. Hope that helps. Good luck and enjoy your chicks
