Brooder light flashing?

It sounds like either a light bulb or a heat lamp is a very common way to provide heat in the brooder for a few weeks. Our babies (mine and my granddaughters) are in their first week in the incubator, and we are preparing for the next step. Wondering if this makes sense. Use a heat lamp in the normal holder/reflector a few inches off the floor. Since the area the brooder will be in, is unheated with large temperature variations from day to night I am concerned. So, I will place a thermostat about two inches off the floor under the heat source. Now we can set the temperature so it will be relatively constant, day and night. This is not a large sensor, only about a 1/4 inch diameter on the end of a wire. The actual controller will then be outside the brooder where it will stay clean and safe. Using this idea, if I use a light bulb, will it cause a problem with the light flashing on and off all the time?
