I've been searching the forums on brooder size. I know they need 1-2sf per chick, but how tall does it need to be? I've got one of those under the bed storage boxes that is only about 6" tall. Maybe I could put cardboard around the sides to make it taller? But I like the idea of having plastic as the bottom. Any thoughts?

I think it might be difficult to manage. My chicks either start in a large pet airline crate, or in a big stock tank with a hardware cloth lid. The little guys grow VERY fast, and some can escape by three weeks of age if I'm not careful. Stock tanks spring leaks and then work great for chicks. I have used big shipping crates too (wood is best) with hardware cloth covers. Mary
