Just made a little brooder tank for the arriving chicks in a few days! Can't wait! If you are wondering I also have a brooder lamp to go with it. Do y'all think it will be fine for them?[IMG]

I used a 20 gallon fish tank, a stuffed Dino and a therapeutic heat pad. I had no brood lamp and all my 3 chicks did just fine.

Newly hatched chicks need 95F heat for the first week. They will not produce enough body heat to survive on their own. You need a heat source. (This heat requirement declines 5F per week)

I would take out the gourd so that the chicks have direct access to heat. They will self-regulate their body temperature by moving towards or away from the heat. "Trapping" them in the gourd will prevent this activity.
