Ok… silly question… My babies are coming tomorrow morning... So, I am setting up the brooder.

Where is the temperature in a brooder measured from??

I had the thermometer on the side (inside) the brooder and it read 95 degrees…. Then I laid it right in the middle on floor of the brooder (under the light) and it read 110 degrees! 15 degree difference! [IMG]

So, where do you all measure from?? [IMG]

    Thanks!

I usually try to get it to about 95 degrees at one end of the brooder. That way, they can get under it if they need to and away from it if they start to feel too warm. My food and water are usually near the other end away from the heat lamp. It may be lower by 10 degrees at the other end, but my chicks seem to do well.
