can someone define this? what does it mean when they get broody? do the do different things that you can recognize as about to lay and raise a brood? or does it mean they get mean and wont accept other chicks around them/ tolerate other hens around there babies because its a mother baby protection thing?

When a hen is broody, she spends all her time on the nest box and will hiss and peck at you if you try to move her. She may steal eggs from other nests to add to her "brood". If she's serious about it, then she'll stay there until her eggs hatch, you stop her, or she dies of starvation.
