Hi! So, one of my cochin bantams is broody and I want to break it. We don’t have a rooster so no need. I’ve used a cage and a small air cooler. I think it’s fine but I wanted to see what you guys think. She’s on the house porch right now because I have electricity here so I can use the air cooler.
So the instructions are;
Wait a couple days
Return her to the coop in the evening. If she roosts it was successful, if she goes back to the nest, again to the “jail” for a couple days more.
Right?

Thank you!

XD I agree she’s upset. When I took her out of the nest she fought back, poor thing >.< but I rely on the power of treats.

The breaker is fine, but if you have the space for it, better to have her in the coop or the run so she can still see the flock. That way when it's time to let her out, you won't have any reintegration issues (though it's unlikely they'd forget her after just a day or two).

And you can test her almost any time of day. If she's broken of broodiness she shouldn't go into the nests at all afterwards, no matter day or night.

Really quick! I expected her to still want to sit on the nest when I heard she still makes the broody noises, but she’s with the others outside behaving as always (just, still with those small “buc-buc-buc” noises haha)

Our hen has stopped laying and is in the nesting box all day. We don't have a rooster. We've checked her and she doesn't seem to be egg bound.

How do we get her to start laying again?

If she’s broody you can break it with the method I showed in the first post of the thread, but there’s also other ways to break it if you have another space separated where she can’t reach the nests and can’t use anything else as nest.
