Broody duck hatching issues

I have 2 broody muscovy gals. They were great sitters. One just hatched her babies this last week. The other is set to hatch any time. 5 ducklings hatched with no issues. But 4 were half out of their shells (by themselves) and I found them that way dead underneath the mama. Were they smooshed, suffocated? I just found a half hatched duckling under the second mama today. I check them daily as they get close to hatching. Anyways this baby died too. I'm wondering if I need to not let the ducks hatch them themselves? Loosing half my babies is costing me half my income with them. :( I took the remaining 5 eggs from the second mom to my incubator a bit ago to avoid more needless deaths.

Is this normal for ducks to smush/suffocate their hatching ducklings?
