My hen has been in her box for about 10 days now sitting on 2 eggs: she has been doing just fine, eating and drinking twice a day and doing full time on the eggs the rest....i looked at her today and this is what her right eye looks like. I dont want to mess with her too much for fear of her leaving the eggs, but i dont want her to lose an eye over 2 "iffy" eggs either. What should i DO????

Looks like a pretty bad infection. Not one of my areas of experience, but I'm basically bumping this thread in hopes that one of the experts with come forward. In the meantim, I'd suggest a search of BYC for threads on "coryza" and "sinus infection" and "respiratory infection." In particular, check to see if there is any smell. That could indicate coryza, which is extremely serious.

ETA: I suggest you go into your original post and edit the post title so you catch the attention of the right folks. Maybe something like "Swollen eye. Coryza?"

Well, good news! i went out this morning to do chores and she was still in the box on both of the eggs, and her eye was closed completely, so at least nothing else could get in it. i took a paper towel and wet it with warm water, went out and wiped her eye off and she can now open it all the way! i dont know how well she can see out of it but it looks fine so i will have to check again later. thank you much for the heads up though; ive had chickens get sick in the past and its not fun... i will update the page if anything changes and will post picks if the eggs hatch
