Greetings,
So one of my hens has been on the nest for a while now (for at least an hour). She's very quiet, and shes puffed up, she also keeps closing her eyes and trying to put her head down but then the'll open them suddenly and stay awake for a while before closing her eyes again and restarting that cycle. I felt for an egg but couldn't find anything and after looking at her flock mates feathers all i saw was a little dirt but nothing that looked like mites. The dirt was on the skin not on the feathers and it brushed off with a little flick of the finger. So what is wrong with her?
will try to upload photos soon...
Thanks so much

Some girls just like to linger.
But... while you’re waiting for an expert to come answer your question,
It would be good to provide some more info if you can.
Age?
Breed? (Some tend to be Broody more than others)
How recently has she last laid?
What does your flock eat?
Do you provide calcium on the side?
Are her comb and wattles a normal red color or does she seem pale ?
Is she clucking?
A Broody hen will go flat (pancake) then fluff up and fuss at you, growl even, and may try to peck at your hand.
If she’ll let you, pick her up and give her a good look over. Does her vent look normal?
See if her breasts/ tummy are bare, lots of Broody hens pluck themselves bare.
If you put her down she might grab a snack and rejoin the flock.
Or she might puff up like a turkey and make a beeline back to the nest complaining all the way.
