Hi all! This is our first year raising chickens and we have LOVED every minute of it!
One of our hens went broody over 8 eggs. On advice from friends with experience, we separated her from the flock, and we are on week 2 of her nesting. She is doing great - we candled her eggs last night and everything looks wonderful.
My question is - what happens after the hatch? Do we keep the chicks with mama, separated from the flock? Return mama to flock and let the chicks get feathered before introducing them? Mama and 8 eggs are in a large dog crate right now. We have a small flock of 5 hens and a rooster. They have a coop with an attached run, and we let them free-range every evening when we get home from work. Thanks for all your help!
