    ChickenBuffs Out Of The Brooder

We have ordered 25 chicks that should be here next week. I have read that you can introduce day old chicks to a broody hen at night and she might adopt them. Obviously, we can't put 25 chicks under one broody hen, so my question is can we put our broody hen into the brooder with the chicks at night? Will this accomplish the same thing? I understand the idea is to make her thinks she hatched them, so I know it would be different. She's a Buff Orpington and they are Black Austrolorps. We already have a mixed flock, but would this complicate her acceptance of them as well? Any thoughts?

    Thanks for the help!

I would not remove her from the flock, but rather give her some of the chicks to brood, if that's your wish. Removing her will mean having to reintegrate her back into the flock, along with the chicks. To be honest, with so many chicks, I'd just brood them myself.
