broody hen attacked by flock

I have a hen that started brooding so i figured what the heck ill leave her 2 eggs. Well i put her by the food today so she could have a 5 min chow down and the other hens all went after her tearing at her head and pecking her. Why is this...then to top it off the roo decided he hated me again and went after me. His dang spur went right through my rubber boots and holy crap does my foot hurt. Im sure if its anything like my keg he ot a few weeks ago im not going to be able to walk on it. Although i more ticked about my nice rubber boots that are ruined!
